It's Not Just What You Eat But When

This article describes new evidence that suggests we should be aware of when we eat affecting our bodies just as much as what we eat. An interesting experiment with lab mice is also introduced. After reading the article include a short summary of the article or answer the discussion question below.

"Likely the foods that you eat has changed since you came to the US; however possiblu when you eat has changed too. Describe changes to your eating routine since coming to the US. Do you think these changes have affected your health?"

  1. Since I came to the EEUU my eating routine change because I used to eat more at lunch, but when I got here I started eating more at dinner. Also my feeding change for the type of food I eat now. However, I'm not sure if it going to affect my health.

  2. When I was in Taiwan, my diet routine was very regular: have breakfast at 7:30am, lunch at noon, and usually eat dinner around 6pm. After I came back to the States, I stayed with a host family at the beginning. I still ate breakfast and lunch pretty regularly. However there was a few dinner problem. Sometimes they cook and had family dinner together. Sometimes everyone just made their own food. I never knew their dinner plan. And the worst thing was they like to eat late and go to bed within 2 hours. I only stayed with them for 10 months but gained lots of weight. After I moved out, I stopped gaining weight, however I couldn't lost it neither. It dose not seems like it will affect my health immediately since I am still young. But it might in the future. Now I am trying really hard to adjust my diet routine and lose weight.

  3. In my case, when I was in Korea, my diet routine was not good because my school schedule was different every day. So my life pattern was irregular including meal times. But Korean food have not too high calorie so I didn't get too much weight. However, I'v gained weight since I came to America. In America, there are many high calorie food. Furthermore I still did not change my bad habits. So I set a new plan to lose weight. Fires, do not eat foods that are high in calories. Second, do not eat food irregularly. Finally, do not eat anything after 18:00 except water. Now I expect to lose weight. - Miyeon Lee

  4. I think both of them(what and when) are correct, but depends on people. Since I got here, I didn't change the way how I eat, but I ate more high-fat food, for example: cheese, chips,...etc. I am 15 lbs heavier than I was since I moved here. If you don't care what you eat, maybe you can eat whatever you want. But if you want to keep your body healthy, of course you do care about what you eat. Also, I think it's important to stop eating two hours before you sleep because if you sleep that means your stomach stops working too.

  5. There are some changes to my eating routine since coming to the US.
When I was in Japan, I used to eat dinner at around 8pm and I didn't eat anything after 10pm. However, since I came to the US, the time that I eat dinner has changed to irregual. Some times, I eat dinner at around 6pm, and sometimes I eat dinner at around 9pm. In addition, when I eat dinner early,I often feel very hungry before go to bed and sometimes eat something like fruit. I think these changes have affected my health because I gained a weight a lot since I came to the US. I think it shows the effect of these changes.

  6. This article is talking about how people tend to gain weight when they don't have a set time to eat. They experimented on mice and later on they figured that it works the same for humans. I have experience this, when I was a full time missionary I didn't have a set time to eat, it wasn't that much the amount but the times I actually ate.
