After reading the article include a short summary or answer the discussion question below.

"How important to you is owning a personal vehicle? If you didn't need a car would you still purchase one? If so, why? If not, why not?"

  1. For me, it is important to own a personal vehicle because it is a little bit difficult to move without one. I need a car in order to buy grocery at the store or supermarkets and to go anywhere much easier. But if I didn't need a car, I wouldn't purchase one because it is a waste of money and I would have unnecessary responsibilities.

  2. If i don't need a car i would not purchase it. I don't want to pay the insurance and the gas (that is really expensive) in a car i don't really need, when i can just be riding a bike and i would be saving money for college or clothes and other interests. But in the other hand, i think it is important to own a car, maybe not right now but for sure i will need it later, when i have a family, when i need to buy things by my own and not asking my family to take me there, and for traveling to another important places when i become an adult. Right now i don't need a car because i live across the building, the bookstore and grocery are close and when i need a ride i call my family but i will probably need one a couple of years later.

  3. I think having a car this days is really important because it's necessary if you work far away from home or if you have an emergency. Also if you want to go out with your family taking the bus might be difficult if your kids are in between 1-12 years.

  4. Owning a personal vehicle is really important to me. Actually I just got the driver's license and bought a car in April because I knew if I didn't have a car, I would not be able to go to school and work on time. Before I own the car, I had been biking and taking buses for almost 2 years. It was not convenience at all, especially in winter. However owning a car was not necessary for me so I chose to save money for school. Besides, if my future spouse owned a vehicle and would drive for me, I will choose not to own a car because it will be a unnecessary spending. Also I prefer to be a relaxing passenger instead of a driver.

  5. I think to own my personal vehicle because it can save my precious time. If I didn't need a car would I still purchase one? The answer is yes because my family might go on a trip. When I have a long trip, it is safer to use a car. As I said it is good to own a car for saving my precious time. Therefore, I like to have a car even I don't need it. Randy Lin

  6. It is important to me to have my personal vehicle when I am going to somewhere is very far away or emergent, then I don't need to bother people to give me a ride. However, I need to save money for my life costing, so I would not purchase one car. If you have a car, you need to pay insurance every month and the gas, In the article they even mention about the roads in American are more congested, so now bike or subway are cheaper and fast- move faster. Now people would think more about what is more important for them to spend their money on, for example, one of my friend just told me he is thinking about to buy a car or to go on a trip to experience different culture for his internship. I think since the economy keep going down, people started to change the way how they spend their money.

  7. This article is about that U.S. is no longer the world’s largest auto market. for several reasons like: the teenagers are not interested in have a car yet, they prefer spent time and money in internet than be in a car. same of they live with they parents and are no interested in buy a car , because they have them parents' car. or they prefer go to the school in a bus or sub way, or they do not have the money for pay a car, insurances, and the school. In my country there are o lot of buses, but here in Utah is different may be the people need have a car is a necessity. 8. I think today a car is important thing. When people go out or go travel somewhere with friends, most people used a car to get there. In Korea, if people do not have enough money to buy a car, they do not have buy a car. Because the public transportation system is really good. If I have to live in American, I should buy own my car.I still think that I need to buy a car in American

  9. In my opinion, having a car is important in America. When I was in Korea, I had never felt the need of a car because there are many public transportation such as bus, taxi and subway. I can go to anywhere without car. But after I came here, I really want to buy a car when I go to a market and hang out. If I didn't need a car, I wouldn't buy car. Car makes air pollution. In addition, vehicle fuel is too expensive.
