After reading the article answer the following question or leave a short summary of what you read in the article.

Do you agree or disagree with this statement, "The best teaching happens outside of the classroom".

p.s. This group of students often practice in the parking lot North of the ELC.

  1. I agree that the best teaching happens outside of the classroom. This is because there are limited environment and time for students to adapt things that they learnt in classroom. Probably, in this article, the professor and his student might experiment the performance of their car such as ample space or track and could spend more time for preparing the competition outside of classroom.

  2. I agree to study inside rather than outside. There are two reasons why. First of all, if we go out somewhere in class time maybe we can not focus our class because outside has a lot of fun thing such as noisy people and people who are playing some activities. secondly, teachers can check what they are doing easily. That is why I prefer to study inside.

  3. I think that every person can learn in class or outside because in class you can learn many things like technical things and outside of class you can do practice with the things that you learn in class. For example that victory of BYU team is a hard work but i thing that the work that they did was in class and outside with the practice of their hybrid race car.

  4. This article talks about a professor and a few engineering students won the 2012 Formula Hybrid Competition. They spent a lot of time on their hybrid race car, and they think Heavenly father blessed them. Randy

  5. I agree that statement. Teaching in a classroom is good. But teaching outside of the classroom can give students special experience. Like tihs article, if students get a prize, they will have more interesting and proud of it. If they don't get anything, if doesn't matter. In preparation for the competition, they have already learned a lot. - Miyeon Lee

  7. I do not agree with that the best teaching happens outside of the classroom. If the best teaching happens outside the classroom then why people go to school? The reason why BYU students won the first place, not because they did a lot of jobs out the class but they also need the professor who taught them on the class.

  9. I don't agree, i think that the best things always happen on the outside but teaching is better inside the classrooms as well. Students will not focus in math when they're outside, they can learn in a closed classroom focusing on the blackboard and in what the teacher explains. Is better to learn some experiences with practice, just as these BYU students constructed an engine and Doctor of Medicine practice with their patients in the hospital. In my opinion teaching is better in the classrooms.

  10. This article talks about how a professor lead his students to win the hybrid racecar competition and what they learn form the process. It talks about the effort they put in. But the most important thing is during the process they were trained to become a better learner and leader. -Vickie Lee

  11. I like the article. In my opinion I think that there are teachers who work very hard and help the student in the classroom. However, I remember more the teachers that they not just working in the classroom. I remember the teachers who sincerely helped me with my challenges, no just in the classroom. They was like a friend for me.I keep them in my mind and also in my hart because they taught more about life, love, and be interesting in others. I am very grateful of them. Jennifer Bradford
