  1. This article is summary of devotional with Elder Snow. He talked about three stumbling blocks. One of them is pride. If we have false pride, we could be influenced with bad things easily. Second is pessimism. Pessimism is to look on the gloomy side. Last one is modern technology such as video games. I think the biggest problem for ELC students is modern technology. Actually, I don't think ELC students are pessimistic or prideful. However, they are exposed to modern technology everyday, so they can be affected by watching TV, playing video games and using smart phone.

  2. As a student at the ELC I think the biggest problem could be pessimism because sometimes students feel that they are no improving their english, and sometimes they feel that their English is not enough to speak or to write, and then they will be shy and pessimist about their English. For that reason I think they are going to be pessimist and their English is not going to improve.

  3. I think the stumbling block that perturbs ELC students is the pessimism. All the students that come to this center are waiting to learn the English perfect in their first week in the United States. They think that just been her in America the English will come like a gift, but is not that way. Some students watch others that speak much better than they so they get frustrate and star thinking that they can do it like they. Also be very far from home discourages them. They do not have their parents with them so they do not have their support. That makes students feel weak and start with the pessimism. They say that they can do it because is too much from them and they are not prepared for a challenge like that. Everyone in this instituted including me, need to work hard for what we want in life. If the student decided to come to the ELC is because he knows he can do it. In this article says life is hard, it’s supposed to be that way. If we have a trouble in are way is because we can pass that issue wounding are self but always getting something good about it.

  4. This speech was given by Elder Snow the Church History Department, and he said there are three stumbling blocks threaten our future progress. The three stumbling blocks are pride, pessimism and modern technology. Obviously, pride blocks our growth, pessimism equals hopelessness, and modern technology can distract you. In the end, he encourage students to focus on spiritual well-being.

  5. If I were to rename this speech I would call it "motivation to success". Elder Snow is trying to teach us how to not waste our future, but strenghten it by being positive. Rational pride, optimism, and the right use of modern technology can carry our dreams throughout our whole lives. I truly think that was the right speech in the right circumstance.

  6. I think the stumbling block of pessimism mentioned by Elder Snow is the biggest problem for the ELC students. Learning a new language is not an easy chore, especially when our listening and speaking teacher asked us to memorize five minutes of a speech. As a students we are feeling like this is a very difficult thing to do. But if we remember what the scriptures teach us “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.’” We can convert that stumbling block unto a stepping stone and even do Mrs. B. homework!

  7. this article talk about the three stumbling blocks: pride, pessimism, and modern technology. And how the three blocks affect students. In my opinion, the pessimism is the biggest pessimism for ELS students. We are learning English now, but we have a lot of problems about English.English need time to completely master. It is very hard to speak like a native person or understand all of the local people's talking,so some times we maybe feel depress and pessimism.
